South Metro Fire Rescue dedicated two new Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) trucks for use at Centennial Airport.
The trucks were purchased as part of a funding collaborating between SMFR and the Arapahoe County Public Airport Authority.
After driving under an arch of water from now designated Red 3 and Red 4, SMFR dispatched officially put the units into service.
“The addition of two new ARFF apparatus to our response force is the latest example of the strong, collaborative relationship Centennial Airport and South Metro Fire Rescue have, and further solidifies our vision to be a leader in service delivery, and operational effectiveness in everything we do,” said SMFR Division Chief Scott Richardson.
Both apparatuses are 2023 Oshkosh 1500 4x4 Strikers. Manufactured in Wisconsin as designated as Red 1 and Red 2, they will carry 1,500 gallons of water and 500 pounds of Purple K dry-chemical fire suppression agent. Red 1 will be based at Station 35 (12080 E. Briarwood Ave., Englewood, CO) and Red 2 will be based at Station 44 (12625 Lincoln Ave., Parker, CO).
“Centennial Airport has long held a strong working relationship with South Metro Fire Rescue and the shared investment in two new aircraft rescue firefighting (ARFF) trucks ensures that will continue for years to come,” added ACPAA Executive Director/CEO Michael Fronapfel. “The safe operation of Centennial Airport is always our number one goal and having two state-of-the-art trucks will enhance our response to any aircraft emergency.”
